BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) – New video was released Thursday morning of the October Boulder condo fire that damaged 81 units.
In the body camera video, you can see firefighters calmly telling a resident to kick and jump.
“Fire! Come outside! Evacuate now,” Boulder firefighters shouted at the scene.
“On the count of three, get out,” we hear a firefighter shout. “Good job buddy, good job!” »
According to the Boulder Police Department, while many residents were able to exit their front door, others were unable. The moment a resident on the third floor heard the commotion, he couldn’t escape and made the decision to jump off his balcony, as you can see in the body camera video above.
BPD said the fire was burning so hot that the heat melted off the aluminum unit numbers and copper parts, before the flames even reached it, or at least 1,200 degrees.
“We are so grateful that the quick teamwork between these agencies saved so many lives that morning, both human and animal. This included firefighters rescuing a birdcage from a residence and lowering a dog spooked on a leash from an upper level,” according to the Boulder Fire Department.
Police and firefighters continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
The fire forced several residents to leave the Whittier Place condominiums. The flames destroyed much of the complex, leaving every unit at least temporarily unlivable.
The resort is located at the intersection of 23rd Street and Pearl Street, a few blocks from the popular Pearl Street Mall.
