Bruce Pearl praises new Florida head coach

There is a new era of Florida Alligators basketball was inaugurated after the departure of Mike White to take the Georgia Bulldogs work. Former Auburn assistant coach Todd Golden has been officially announced as the new head coach of the Gators Friday.

Current Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl was asked if Golden accepted the job in Florida after three seasons at the University of San Francisco. The Dons lost their first-round game with Murray State, and now Golden is heading to Gainesville.

“I would like to answer that” pearl said. “I don’t know if I should unless it’s been announced…I love Todd.” I love him like a son.”

Golden spent the 2014-16 seasons on the Plains as an assistant serving under Pearl in his first two seasons with Auburn. In 2016, Golden left to take an assistant job in San Francisco and reunited with his former boss at Columbia, Kyle Smith. When Smith left for work at Washington State, Golden was promoted to head coach.

Next season, Pearl will face his former director of basketball operations. For now, however, the Gators are gearing up for their next game in the NIT, while the Tigers prepare to face the Miami Hurricanes on Sunday in the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
