Louisiana Prep Baseball Playoff Report for Wednesday, April 27
In class 5A, number 17 Destrehan narrowly missed a home playoff in the first round.
The result was a long drive to Bossier City.
The trip was worth it.
Noah Simon pitched a full game and was eliminated without a walk as the Wildcats shut out the No. 16 Airline 4-0 in the first round of Ochsner State’s LHSAA playoffs on Tuesday.
Simon helped himself with a pair of home plate hits.
Scoreless in the fourth inning, the Wildcats scored twice in the top of the inning on a single by Shane Lee, a double by Simon and a two-run single by Keston Granier.
Destrehan got insurance runs in the top of the seventh on singles from Granier and Christian Ricks and a walk to Walker Dew to load the bases. Jonah Haslauer then hit a ground fly that the first baseman couldn’t handle, scoring a pair of runs.
Destrehan (21-13) advances to the regional round to face top seeded and defending state champion Barbe in a best-of-three series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. in Lake Charles. The Buccaneers knocked out No. 32 Pineville 5-1 on Tuesday.
No. 3 Dutchtown eliminated No. 30 Slidell 9-2.
The Griffins scored three runs in the first inning and four in the third to take a comfortable 7-0 lead. After the Tigers got a run in the top of the sixth, Dutchtown added two more runs down the frame. Slidell got one last run in the seventh inning.
Pierson Parent had three RBIs for Dutchtown.
Nathan Monceaux remained undefeated (9-0) with the win.
Jay Davis took the loss for Slidell (17-16). Grant Bonnafons had an RBI single for the Tigers.
Dutchtown (31-3) qualifies to host No. 14 Ponchatoula in the regional round. The Green Wave beat No. 19 Benton 2-1 on Tuesday.
In Class 4A, No. 11 Franklinton knocked out No. 22 Livonia 11-1 in five innings.
The Demons scored six runs late in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Rickken Burkhalter and added two more runs in the third to lead 8-0.
Micah Wascom took the win, going three scoreless innings. Will Turner picked it up and raced the last two runs.
The Wildcats got a run in the fourth inning to make it 8-1, but Franklinton responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-1.
The Demons put it aside with two runs late in the fifth inning with Trevor Vise driving home the game-ending run.
Franklinton had nine hits while allowing Livonia just two hits.
The Demons (19-8) advance to the regional round to face a very familiar opponent in 9-4A District rival and No. 6 seed Lakeshore.
The Titans advanced with an easy 11-2 win over 27th-placed Beau Chene.
Lakeshore jumped on Beau Chene early with three runs late in the first inning, two in the second and two more in the third.
The Gators had single runs in the top of the fourth and sixth innings to make it 7-2 before the Titans scored four in the bottom of the sixth.
Morgan Sauber went four innings for the win, allowing one run on two hits. Sauber walked no one and struck out five.
Gavin Stein had two hits and three RBIs, Gabe Dalton had two hits including a double and an RBI, Nate Abadie had two hits and an RBI and Preston Scott had an RBI single for the Titans , who had 12 hits.
Carson Taylor took the loss for Beau Chene. Hunter Meche had a double RBI while Joshua Judice had a single RBI for the Gators.
Lakeshore (21-9) and Franklinton shared a pair of district games.
Another 9-4A team advanced as No. 19 Pearl River went to No. 14 Minden and won 5-3.
The Rebels are young but talented and coming of age.
Pearl River jumped ahead in the first inning on an RBI single from Jude Cooley, scoring twice The Crimson Tide tied it with a run late in the first.
Pearl River took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run single from second Trey Turnage. Sophomore Palmer Felger added an insurance run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single to make it 5-2.
Minden scored a point late in the seventh but it wasn’t enough.
Freshman Jacob Clifton took the win for Pearl River, going four innings, allowing one hit and striking out three in relief from Turnage, who went the first three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) of two hits with two walks and one strikeout. .
Brody Bower took the loss for Minden, going five innings, allowing five runs on four hits. Bower walked one and struck out six. Brandon Winston pitched two scoreless innings in relief for Minden.
The rebels robbed five bases.
The Rebels (17-14) advance to face the No. 3 Assumption in the regional round. The Mustangs handled No. 30 New Orleans Military & Maritime 15-0 in five innings.
Also in 4A, No. 23 Warren Easton went on the road and upset No. 10 Carencro 5-3.
The Eagles (12-14) advance to face No. 7 South Lafourche in a regional best-of-three round. The Tarpons beat No. 26 Leesville 5-2.
In Class 3A, No. 3 Lutcher beat No. 30 Union Parish 13-0 in five sets.
Lutcher (26-9) will host No. 14 Kaplan in the best of three regional rounds this weekend.
Also in 3A, No. 10 Loranger downed No. 23 Caldwell Parish 4-2.
Wolves (19-13) advance to the regional round to play No. 7 Erath in a best-of-three series starting Friday at 6 p.m. Erath handled No. 26 Booker T. Washington of New Orleans 9-2.
In class 2A, n° 16 Pin edged n° 17 Port Bar 4-3.
The Raiders (20-6) await the winner of today’s opener between No. 1 Rosepine and No. 32 Northeast in the regional round.
No11 Doyle beat Welsh No22 1-0.
The Tigers (18-14) will travel to No. 6 Loreauville in the regional round for a best-of-three series this weekend. Loreauville beat No. 27 Lake Arthur 10-0 in five sets.
