Pearl River Community College brings Disney’s beloved tale, “The Little Mermaid,” to life on stage April 7-9. Family musical performances will take place at the Brownstone Center for the Arts on the Poplarville campus.
Based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson and the animated classic that followed, “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” is the story of Ariel who dreams of life above her oceanfront home. She longs to meet the handsome Prince Eric, so she makes a deal with the sea witch, Ursula. Fortunately, she has some great friends determined to see her win the prince’s heart and find calm under the sea.
“The Little Mermaid” will be presented to the public on April 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. and April 9 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the musical production are available for sale on the site: prcc.edu/brownstone/events. Balcony seats are $17 each and orchestra seats are $22 each. Groups of 11 or more enjoy a reduced rate.
“Being part of this production has opened many creative and expressive doors for me and many others,” said Joe McHenry, who plays Prince Eric. “I am extremely excited to share this magical thing with so many people!”
Musical selections include fan favorites like “Part of Your World”, “Under the Sea”, “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and “Kiss the Girl”. In total, the musical contains 30 pieces that will be performed during the two-act production.
There will be a meet and greet with special characters from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. before Saturday, April 9. Fan favorites like Ariel, King Triton and the Mersisters, Sebastian and Prince Eric Each will guide visitors through resort activities. Dinglehoppers will be distributed to those who complete all 11 stations.
Admission to the Meet-and-Greet requires an additional ticket. Pricing starts at $5 for meet and greet only, or between $20 and $23 with a commemorative t-shirt included. Tickets for the Meet-and-Greet must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door.
