Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam form to join new band called 3rd Secret

Members of iconic grunge bands Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam have reunited to form a new band called 3rd Secret and released their self-titled debut album on Monday.

The musical ensemble includes former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic; Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil; and drummer Matt Cameron, who has played for both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.

The group also includes members Bubba Dupree, a guitarist who was part of the punk band Void; singer Jillian Raye, who was part of Novoselic’s band Giants in the Trees; and singer Jennifer Johnson.

The 11-track debut album was partially written by Novoselic and Cameron, while Raye wrote the lyrics, and Jack Endino, who produced 1989’s Nirvana album Bleach, mixed the recording, Billboard reported.

The record, according to the musical medium NME“features a wide tonal palette – it leans heavily on the classic flavors of grunge and alt-rock, but adds diversity with hints of laid-back folk and indie-rock, swampy blues and stomping hard-rock “.

The album includes tracks named Dead Sea, Winter Solstice, Right Stuff, Diamond In The Cold, I Choose Me and Lies Fade Away.

The group has not publicly announced its lineup or album until its release on Monday. In February, Novoselic took to Twitter with a post he later deleted that read, “I’m really busy trying to finish a record. But it’s a secret, so don’t tell anyone!!!’

The first album was released on streaming services; a statement on the band’s website said “reports from the 3rd Secret hotline indicate that the album is still not on Apple Music.”

The band thanked the media for “all the coverage” of their debut and said it was “nice to hear the reports refer to a ‘supergroup,'” adding, “We’ll take it!!!”

Thayil said in an interview with minute of life in March that he was ready to collaborate with bandmates Soundgarden, Cameron and Ben Shepherd.

“I think all three of us have an interest in doing new things – we certainly like working together,” he said.
