NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – Pearl-Cohn High School student Taurus Turrentine was killed in a car accident last night on Due West Avenue.
Turrentine was a passenger in a gray Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 17-year-old last night. The driver was traveling west on Due West Avenue when she swerved and hit a tree. Turrentine died following the accident.
The driver told Metro Nashville police that she swerved because she thought she saw the headlights of another vehicle coming towards her in her lane.
The driver and Turrentine were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. There is no evidence of impairment at the scene.
Turrentine was a football player at Pearl-Cohn High School. Coach Tony Brunetti has issued a statement on the former player.
“Taurus Turrentine was a 6-foot, 285-pound teddy bear who was simultaneously one of the strongest kids on the Pearl-Cohn Firedbirds football team. Taurus was an all-district defensive tackle, who played four years at Pearl-Cohn and started the Taurus chose Pearl-Cohn because he knew he could go to college with the support of coaches and teachers, and this year he received a full ride at the Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. His teachers, coaches, and classmates described him as generous and kind who brought light to the classroom. Our hearts are with his family as we join them in mourn the loss of this wonderful and talented young man.
The police arrested the driver for not having a license or insurance.
