Pearl Maddox Obituary (1945 – 2021) – Greensboro, NC

Pearl Odell (Dixon) Maddox was born on August 27, 1945 to the late James E. and Edna Anderson Dixon in Java, Virginia. (Halifax). Odell entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 21, 2021
She was educated and graduated from the Halifax County public school system. Pearl (Odell) accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at age 10, was baptized, and joined County Line Baptist Church. After graduating from high school, Pearl (Odell) moved to Washington, DC Upon arriving in Washington, DC, she worked in the S&W cafeteria. She later met and married Charles Vernon Maddox, Jr. From this union they had three children Frenchel, Charles III and Lesley.
She then worked at Dart Drug as a cashier/pharmacy clerk. In October 1989, she obtained employment with Union Labor Life Insurance Company (ULLICO) in the records room as a records clerk/telephone operator, retiring after nineteen (19) years of service. She loved her job and the people she worked with at each of her jobs over the years. She was a member of the Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, MD. Pearl (Odell) loved God and always wanted to know more about him. She often said, “I just want to do what pleases God.
After retiring from ULLICO, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. While in Charlotte, she volunteered at the local nursing home three (3) days a week until her cousin fell ill. She then traveled from Charlotte to Washington, DC to help care for her until her services were no longer needed.
Odell (Pearl) was a member of Grace AME Zion Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she served on the deaconess board, pantry, and main committee. Additionally, Pearl (Odell) enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to/streaming sermons live when she couldn’t attend church or study the Bible, caring for her family, singing hymns, speaking and helping her neighbours, walking with the ladies, painting, physical and virtual with her daughters and grandchildren, visiting museums and art galleries, attending theater performances with her children, grandchildren and family at the church, as well as planting and maintaining its vegetable and herb garden.
She is preceded into eternal life by her parents, James and Edna Dixon; his three brothers, Sonny, Hubert and William Dixon; two sisters MayNell and Deloris; three nephews Leslie Coleman, Michael and Mark Bruner; three cousins ​​Earl Dixon, Samuel Dixon and Lynn Coleman.
She leaves in her memory two daughters Frenchel LM Moss (Gregory); Lesley M. Perkins; a son Charles V. Maddox III; a brother Jimmie D. Dixon (Weary); three sisters-in-law Fannie Dixon (Hubert), Marie Richardson (William), Phyllis Dixon (William); four granddaughters Karlee and Carmin Maddox; Nia Moss and Aaliyah Maddox; three grandsons Noah Moss, Carlos Maddox and Nathaniel Perkins; two great-grandsons Karson and Kayson Maddox; two aunts Arnithia Ross & Elsie Anderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins ​​and friends. Pearl Odelle Maddox, 76, died Saturday, November 20, 2021 at her residence.
