MultiChoice Uganda, the home of great pay-TV entertainment, celebrated the one-year anniversary of one of its personalized Pearl Magic Prime channels in style at a red carpet event held at the Mestil Hotel.
The channel whose content is primarily tailored to the Ugandan market has had a positive impact on the film industry and contributed to its growth as well as its revival in general.
In his remarks, Hassan Saleh, the Managing Director of MultiChoice Uganda, announced that with the launch of Pearl Magic Prime, MultiChoice promised to deliver quality entertainment.
Saleh added that over the past year, Ugandans have welcomed locally made films and content and this support is evident with the growing number of viewers.
“This audience shows that there is a strong demand for good Ugandan content, but also shows that the Ugandan market can produce great content.” Saleh said.
Pearl Magic Prime launched in February 2021 shortly before the second lockdown was reinstated in the country. This implied that the filmmakers had a big task at hand, including ensuring that content remained readily available to viewers who now had plenty of time to watch television.
Saleh noted, however, that these filmmakers have shown resilience throughout these difficult times. “Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, our content creators have been determined to deliver on their commitments.”
MultiChoice’s content verification has also empowered filmmakers to produce and release quality content evidenced by the awards and accolades that shows broadcast on the channel have received over time.
While addressing the guests of the event, Saleh highlighted the shows that have received recognition and accolades both locally and internationally.
“Highly sought-after shows like Prestige and Sanyu have aired over 200 episodes, with both shows running their second seasons as we speak. Both shows have won various accolades in Ugandan awards. Sanyu is internationally recognized for its production quality with a rating of 9.6/10 on the International Movie Database (IMDb).
As MultiChoice gears up for the year 2022, they have unveiled Ugandan shows that will air on the channel with a more exciting and eye-catching vibe for Ugandan audiences.
“As we move forward into 2022, our promise to continue showcasing local content like you’ve never seen remains firm. Come April, Salvador’s show and Kojja two stunning new shows will go live on Pearl Magic Prime. Salvador’s show, uniquely designed as a comedy talk show, will be one of a kind on the Ugandan scene with 45-minute episodes of celebrity interviews tackling topical issues. Kojja derived from the title given to uncles in central Uganda will cause different relationships to unpack. times per episode with a touch of comedy,” Saleh said.
Ing Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission, attended the anniversary celebration and recognized MultiChoice Uganda’s contribution to the film industry.
“UCC has a long-standing relationship with MultiChoice Uganda, witnessing their growth over the years in terms of launching more channels, creating learning opportunities for young talent through their MultiChoice Talent Factory initiative, among other developments. Investments in the growth and visibility of Ugandan stories across Africa have made you a brand to be immensely proud of. Well done!”
Pearl Magic Prime’s anniversary comes at a time when MultiChoice Uganda has reiterated its commitment and dedication to continue serving Ugandans with not only quality content, but also skill opportunities to equip and promote talent.
