PEarl Safety Solutions expects its revenue to increase by more than a quarter this fiscal year after strengthening its position in the renewable energy sector.

The improvement in the health and safety consultancy’s fortunes comes just months after establishing its headquarters on the Materials Processing Institute’s Teesside campus.

Founded in 2015 by director Phil Jones, he ran the business from his home in Ingleby Barwick until an expanding client list and increased demand for his online training service dictated the move from last summer.

The consultancy, which works across the UK and Ireland, has always been involved in providing health and safety support to the construction industry, social landlords and local authorities.

However, with an increasing focus on decarbonization and net zero, it has also started working with solar energy providers and circular economy companies.

In the second half of last year, it carried out 74 audits on solar farms and recently won a contract with a large solar energy company based in Austria. She is also involved in a project to build an anaerobic digester in the North West for a major Dutch venture capitalist.

Since its move, Pearl Safety Solutions has benefited from the synergy with the Institute, which undertakes research and innovation activities in advanced materials, industrial decarbonization and the circular economy, including energy recovery, and net zero process solutions.

Additionally, his office on the campus of the Materials Processing Institute is adjacent to Teesworks, the former Redcar steelworks site which is being developed into the UK’s largest industrial estate, and Teesside Freeport. , which will foster innovation and regeneration.

Phil Jones, who works alongside six partners, said: “We reached a point where we needed to find the space that would allow us to take this business to the next level.

“This location is perfect, right on the doorstep of Teesworks and the Freeport – both of which will attract further foreign investment and make the Tees Valley a hugely attractive place to do business.

“Revenue is on track to grow by a record 25-30% this fiscal year, driven in part by our expansion into the renewable energy sector.”

Chris McDonald, Managing Director of the Materials Processing Institute, said, “I am delighted to hear that Pearl Safety Solutions has been thriving since arriving on our campus and taking advantage of the many opportunities available.

“Our campus is located in the heart of the Tees Valley, a region at the forefront of clean energy, low carbon, hydrogen and industrial digitalization – the cornerstones of economic prosperity future of this country.”

After introducing a dedicated incubator service for start-ups and SMEs, the Institute has created additional dedicated offices and workshops for larger and more established companies. Tenants can also access research and innovation expertise, as well as additional support services and facilities.

As a local business, Pearl Safety Solutions remains proud of its roots and is a silver member of the MFC Foundation, the independent charity arm of Middlesbrough FC.
