Star-studded new sitcom The Kojja is coming to Pearl Magic Prime

KAMPALA – What happens when a clever con man finds himself in a position of influence and power? The Kojja, a new quirky comedy premiering on Pearl Magic Prime, explores this storyline when it premieres on Wednesday, April 20.

Led by a dynamic and decorated cast, viewers of “DStv and GOtv Supa” should expect nothing but laughter in April when a 35-year-old man running away from debtors fights his way to a lucrative position as a therapist in a marriage counseling firm.

With the overarching theme of the rivalry between traditional and modern methods of relationship counseling, The Kojja is set in a fictional business whose business model is rooted in the Ugandan marriage counseling culture of Kojja (uncle) and Ssenga (aunt). Their target market are middle-class couples whose relationships need sparing. But is a liar and charismatic con man the right person to solve such problems?

Stepping into the lead role of Ponsiano Maraka (aka “the Kojja”) is the acclaimed and multi-faceted Amon Nuwamanya whose illustrious career has seen him appear in numerous films, including Nana Kagga’s “Beneath the Lies”, “The Campus ” by Phillip Luswata, and “Yat Madit” by Irene Kulabako. When talking about radio dramas, Amon has acted in Sawa ya Eagle directed by Madame Alice Lwanga, Rock point 256 and many more. Amon is currently starring in Usalama, an anti-corruption radio drama from the WizArts Foundation, and he helps run the Runyakitara language.

Joining Amon is Okuyo Joel Atiku Prynce who plays his nemesis at work, James Kamoga (aka the True Advisor). Multi-award winning Prynce is an actor, model, and director whose long list of credits includes roles in Battle of the Souls, Hearts in Pieces, I Am Slave, and State Research Bureau; and The River And The Mountain, Imbabazi (Le Pardon) and Cordes.

Rounding out the main cast are Tania Shakirah Kankindi (who plays Aphohia, the versatile office administrator), an award-winning actress whose credits include The Coffee Shop, Power of Legacy and My Husband’s Wife; and Gloria Catherine Nambozo (who plays Seraphina, Maraka’s desperately unhappy wife). Nambozo’s credits include Mama & Me and Yat Madit. Speaking at the premiere of the show, GOtv Uganda Brand Manager Josephine Namuddu was delighted to announce and officially unveil a drama film solely centered around marriage counseling in Uganda.
