50% government subsidy for pearl farming
Even the government offers a subsidy of up to 50%. Given the scope ofpearl farming, the Department of Fisheries has included a pearl farming sub-component in the blue revolution program to encourage the sector. Pearl farming requires a pond (from which the pearls are made) which you can have dug at your own expense or you can take advantage of a 50% subsidy from the government.
It is also advisable to take vocational training in one of theinstitutes offering training in pearl farming. The CIFA is the most important of them. This will help you learn the correct technique for harvesting pearls.
Pearl farming: cost-benefit analysis
25,000 oysters can fit in a one acre pond. The cost of setting up an oyster is Rs 25,000. Your investment for a one acre pond can reach Rs 8 lakh.
2 pearls are prepared in an oyster. A pearl can cost 120 rupees. Whereas if the quality is good, the price of the pearl can go up to 200 rupees. Understand that if even 50% of the oysters in your pond turn out well, you can easily earn up to 30-35 lakh. rupees per year by selling them.
