Stable Hall, a new concert hall in the historic Pearl stables, will accommodate 1,000 guests.

The Pearl Resort in San Antonio on Tuesday unveiled plans to transform its historic 126-year-old stable into a “world-class music venue” and outdoor beer garden.

The new business, called Stable Hall, will open in the spring of 2023, according to Pearl officials. It will include a music hall with a capacity of 1,000 guests as well as an open-air beer garden that recalls the German heritage of the former brewery.

“During COVID, we had the chance to take a break and reflect on what we wanted to be. This place has always had something to do with music, and we carry with us the importance of San Antonio in the Texas music landscape,” Pearl Commercial CEO Elizabeth Fauerso said at a morning press conference. . “We’re taking this special space, honoring its history, and transforming it into a beautiful, new place to enjoy Texas music.”

A draped stage will be the focal point of the venue’s indoor performance hall. The redesign will also include the addition of floor seating and a curved balcony that will provide an uninterrupted view of the stage.

San Antonio and Austin architects Clayton Korte and Austin-based interior design firm Joel Mozersky Design reimagined the space to include roughly hewn wood floors, hand-painted murals, and a wooden ceiling. restored wood.

The Stable Hall will also be equipped with a high-end green room for performers and state-of-the-art acoustic and lighting design. Bars and pre-function areas will surround the performance hall.

The biergarten will be equipped with long tables and benches for a communal experience. It will feature traditional Texan and German dishes from the hill region, such as kolaches, bratwurst and pretzels, as well as craft beer and specialty cocktails.

Entertainment company WoodHouse, which operates Dallas’ Trees and Gypsy Tea Room as well as an array of hotels, resorts and entertainment festivals, will oversee the live music aspect of Stable Hall. In a statement, WoodHouse director Brandt Wood said he was working with San Antonio restaurateur Erick Schlather, co-founder of Hot Joy and Barbaro, on the project.

Local musicians Santiago Jiménez Jr., Rosie Flores and the Peterson Brothers performed at Tuesday’s unveiling. Pearl officials said the trio of performers is indicative of the type of acts they plan to perform once the venue is up and running.

In 2020, Pearl officials said they would no longer book events at the Pearl Stable, which had operated as a meeting venue for 14 years.

In the late 1800s, Pearl Stable housed the Old Brewery’s workhorses, and over the years many of the architectural features of the structure have been bricked up or removed.
