- More information on the Mareep line
Before finishing pokemon shiny diamond and shiny pearl pokemon, trainers can find a mix of Pokémon from different regions of Sinnoh. Pokémon that are not part of the Sinnoh Dex will only start appearing in the wild after brilliant diamond and Brilliant pearl’s the story is over. After that, it’s possible to find Pokémon from Kanto, Johto, or Hoenn by using the Poke Radar, searching for swarms, or exploring the Great Underground.
Mareep and its evolutions aren’t the strongest Pokémon, but longtime fans may recognize it as a common asset used against Violet City Gym leader Falkner. Mareep and its evolution, Flaaffy, can be found in several places in brilliant diamond and shiny pearl. Fortunately, Mareep is not version-exclusive and does not require trading to reach its final evolution.
Finding Mareep
Yes BDSP players haven’t yet, get Professor Rowan’s National Dex. If they are missing the Pokedex entry for Palkia (brilliant diamond) or Dialga (shiny pearl), then visit Cynthia’s grandmother in Celestic Town and talk to her to save Pokémon #149/150.
With the 150 Pokemon registered in the Sinnoh Dex (151 if you count Manaphy), visit Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town to get the National Dex and Poke Radar. With these two items in hand, Mareep and the other National Dex Pokémon will begin to appear in Sinnoh and the Great Underground.
Mareep cannot be found as a random encounter in the wild. Instead, trainers should use the Poke Radar apart from Valley Wind Turbines. Mareep has a 12% chance of appearing and will be around level 8-9. If an Electric-type Pokémon has the Ability Static and is ahead of the party, this increases the chance of Electric-type encounters in the area by 50%, which could make it easier to capture Mareep.
Those looking to skip Mareep and jump straight to Flaaffy can go to Route 222 and use the Poke Radar instead. Like Mareep, Flaaffy has a 12% chance to spawn with the Poke Radar. His level will be around 41-42.
If trainers want a stronger Mareep (or Flaaffy), they can go to Whiteout Cave, Grassland Cave, Where sunny cave shelters in the big metro. Flaaffy is a rare spawn, so it may be easier to catch Mareep instead. If neither is in the specified hiding place, exit the room and come back inside.

As an Electric-type, Mareep and its morphs all share the same type efficiency. Most of their moves are Electric-type special moves, but Ampharos is able to learn Fire Punch and Power Gem, giving him greater type coverage in battle. The best stats for the Mareep line are Special Attack and Special Defense, with their Speed and Attack as their weakest stats.
They have the following base stats and type effectiveness:

Ampharos had the ability to Mega Evolve into Mega Ampharos with the Ampharosite, which would increase his base stat total from 510 to 610. He would gain 165 special attack (base stat) from his 115 as a Ordinary ampharos. Additionally, Ampharos’ type would change from Electric-Type to Electric-Dragon-Type, allowing him to gain STAB from moves like Dragon Pulse.
Without Mega Evolution, Ampharos is still a good Pokémon despite its slow speed. A recommended nature for Ampharos is Modest (+Sp.Attk, -Attk) because his highest Special Attack is higher than his Attack. Although they have moves that deal physical damage (Fire Punch, Thunder Punch), Ampharos’ best moves are all special. At level 65, Ampharos learns Dragon Pulse. While it won’t get STAB from Dragon Pulse as a regular Ampharos, this Dragon-type move will give it cover against Dragon-type Pokemon, which will resist Ampharos’ Electric-type moves.
Even if he doesn’t learn it by leveling up, it is recommended to teach Ampharos the Thunderbolt move via TM24. Thunderbolt has 100% Accuracy and 90 Potency with 15PP, making it a good Electric-type move for a Special Attacker like Ampharos and his pre-evolved forms.
Although TM25 Thunder may have higher power, its accuracy is 80%, making it harder to hit enemies. Given Ampharos’ already slow speed, trainers will want him to deal as much damage as possible and make sure all of his moves hit the opponent.
pokemon shiny diamond and shiny pearl pokemon are available now on Nintendo Switch.
