Dear friends,
Writer’s block reared its ugly head. I’m exhausted, scratching the bottom of the barrel, and struggling to find questions for Pearl to answer. Yes, to be honest, I made up 99.7% of all the questions. Recently I fell to a low point and took a humorous real life situation that involved people I know and love, made a question out of it and ended up hurting feelings and create havoc. Of course, no names were used but they knew… shame on me.
I never imagined that Pearl would be so well received in the community. The past four (plus) years have introduced me to people I might never have met otherwise, and I will be forever grateful to them. A special “thank you” from the bottom of my heart to all of you who approached me and reached out to share your love for Pearl.
After careful consideration, I’ve decided to give Pearl the much-needed vacation. I think it’s safe to say that she enjoyed the column as much as I did. We wrote the column for free, so it’s not like we can get fired, is it? We definitely wouldn’t want that on our CV! I sincerely appreciate the Newnan Times-Herald’s support and enthusiasm for Pearl.
I so loved sharing Big, Little, Baby, Gus, Millie Katherine, the Happy Tree, Big Haired Betsy, Sally the Bossy “B”, and my Mommy with you. Especially Mom – who thinks I’m a celebrity, won’t let strangers share my identity, and prefers to be called “Mother of Pearl.” The madness continues to take her slowly, but Pearl gave her so much pleasure…that fact will always make me happy.
Remember that there are only two types of people in this world: those who return their strollers and those who leave them in the middle of the parking space. Please return your strollers so I don’t have to call you. Be kind to and considerate of others. Use your manners and practice common courtesies. Do not place yourself in the “10 items or less” line with more than 12 items. Set a good example for children. Do your part to make sure frozen salads don’t go away. Wear appropriate clothing. Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from singing and dancing. Don’t expect teachers to teach your children everything they need to know to be successful. Win or lose, be courteous. Don’t be a sucker.
Above all, I pray that you always let your light SHINE.
With love,
Colleen
