Pearl Carter Obituary (2022) – Canonsburg, PA

Pearl A. Carter, 89, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Pearl was born in Canonsburg, February 22, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Porcaro, who immigrated to Canonsburg from Rosello, Italy.

Pearl graduated from Canonsburg High School and was a member of Holy Rosary Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish in Muse.

During her life, she worked at RCA Corporation, Canonsburg Hospital, and Feno Market.

On June 25, 1955, she married Gene P. Carter, who died on May 31, 2018.

She leaves behind three beloved children, her devoted daughter, Gloria J. Buckels (Kent) of Canonsburg; Robert A. Carter (Lori) of Clermont, Florida; and Terry J. Carter (Tammy) of Hinsdale, Illinois. Also survived are her three cherished sisters, Loretta Kulakowski, Rena Patrick and Rose Marie Vidmar (John), all of Canonsburg.

Pearl was known as “Nana” to her seven grandchildren, Kelly Quidley (Eric), Shelly Witzel (Adam), Jon Carter (Dana), Talbot, Tanner, Truman and Turner Carter. Pearl, affectionately known as “Old Nana”, also had four great-grandchildren, Emma, ​​Ella, Ava and Arlen Quidley. Aunt Pearl will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

He also remains his treasured friend and roommate of 4 years, Delores “Dee” Meredith, who brought happiness and comfort to Pearl and her family.

Her brothers, Carmen and Joseph Porcaro, predeceased her.

Pearl was as direct as possible. She called an ace an ace, and if you had the chance to play poker with her, you understood.

She loved to cook for her family and her biggest meal of the year was Christmas Eve dinner which started at 5pm sharp, bar none. If you are late for any reason, you would face the unleashed fury of Pearl. Many family members are said to have learned to swear from Pearl in English and Italian.

Pearl ran her vacuum every day at 5 a.m., regardless of who was sleeping.

In 2019, Pearl made her debut at the Canonsburg 4th of July Parade as an honorary representative of Townview.

She enjoyed playing bingo with friends, often questioning the outcome.

This graceful lady and spitfire will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are welcome from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD Owner/Supervisor Erin E. Jones LFD, 304 W. Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 9 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2022.

The family asks for the wearing of the mask.

A Christian funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in the Saint-Rosaire de Muse church.

A private burial will follow at Alleghenies National Cemetery, Cecil Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pearl’s memory to the Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center.
